Could Raman Spectroscopy Distinguish Between P. falciparum and P. vivax Infection?

چکیده

The erythrocytes obtained from patients diagnosed with Plasmodium falciparum or vivax infection (two groups of five each) and treated in the Department Infectious Diseases, University Hospital Kraków, were measured using Raman spectroscopy method (1–2 cells each patient) then compared results these during their convalescence. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was used to determine variance between spectra. Changes heme structure observed by v4 oxidation state marker other hemozoin bands, as well protein side chains bands. recognized bands allow differentiate changes taking place red blood development vivax. 1385 cm?1 Asp band along 1587 Gln vibrations at beginning hospitalization specify invasion P. that occurs basigin receptor which requires respective glycosylation. 1361 1544 Trp indicate stage parasite, formation ligand-receptor complex. To our knowledge, this is first spectroscopic observation we can distinguish species.

Evaluation of Microscopy Sensitivity, Specificity in Detection of P. falciparum and P. vivax, Using Monoplex real-time PCR, Gezira, Sudan

Background: Malaria is still account for 200 million cases annually. Microscopy is the gold standard technique for malaria parasites detection. PCR-based techniques can detect malaria infections with high sensitivity. The study aimed to evaluate the sensitivity of microscopy technique in the detection of P. falciparum and P. vivax, using monoplex real-time PCR, Gezira State, Central Sudan. Met...

iNOS polymorphism modulates iNOS/NO expression via impaired antioxidant and ROS content in P. vivax and P. falciparum infection

Nitric oxide (NO) has dicotomic influence on modulating host-parasite interplay, synchronizing physiological orchestrations and diagnostic potential; instigated us to investigate the plausible association and genetic regulation among NO level, components of oxidative stress, iNOS polymorphisms and risk of malaria. Here, we experimentally elucidate that iNOS promoter polymorphisms are associated...

Differential Patterns of Infection and Disease with P. falciparum and P. vivax in Young Papua New Guinean Children

BACKGROUND Where P. vivax and P. falciparum occur in the same population, the peak burden of P. vivax infection and illness is often concentrated in younger age groups. Experiences from malaria therapy patients indicate that immunity is acquired faster to P. vivax than to P. falciparum challenge. There is however little prospective data on the comparative risk of infection and disease from both...

Molecular evidence of high rates of asymptomatic P. vivax infection and very low P. falciparum malaria in Botswana

BACKGROUND Botswana is one of eight SADC countries targeting malaria elimination by 2018. Through spirited upscaling of control activities and passive surveillance, significant reductions in case incidence of Plasmodium falciparum (0.96 - 0.01) was achieved between 2008 and 2012. As part of the elimination campaign, active detection of asymptomatic Plasmodium species by a highly sensitive metho...

Heritability of P. falciparum and P. vivax Malaria in a Karen Population in Thailand

The majority of studies concerning malaria host genetics have focused on individual genes that confer protection against rather than susceptibility to malaria. Establishing the relative impact of genetic versus non-genetic factors on malaria infection and disease is essential to focus effort on key determinant factors. This relative contribution has rarely been evaluated for Plasmodium falcipar...
